We all know it costs money to get specialist legal advise, so why not save some money!
These are 4 ways to write a free will….

1. write it yourself with a DIY kit
2. search information from the internet, and download an online form
3. ask a bloke in the pub who recently did one for himself
4. visit a solicitor or call a charity for a ‘FREE charity will’*

*(these are not actually free, as a ‘donation’ is required and your details are given to charity)

Yes, it is free (or cheaper), but is it a false economy?

Is DIY always better? There are lots of things we can do ourselves without paying someone, but they don’t always go well.
It’s cheaper to cut your own hair rather than go to an experienced hairdresser; or to install your own boiler and plumbing for a new bathroom, or an extension to your house using just instructions from YouTube, rather than calling a qualified, experienced plumber or builder.

In other words, you get what you pay for. If you attempt DIY, when you have no skills or expertise in the subject, it can be a false economy and can end up costing a lot more money to fix it afterwards than you have saved initially.
In the case of your Will, this is a serious matter. How do you know if your Will is not legally valid? or if it doesn’t achieve what you want or expect? or if it causes more problems for your family and family arguments? or it causes a lot more in probate fees?

Sadly, we often only find out these problems out when it’s too late, and we can’t go back and change our Will after we have died! (unlike your DIY haircut, or your leaking bathroom). So spending some time and money with a specialist legal advisor, getting proper advice, and being able to ask questions is really good value for money, as it will save time, costs and arguments in the long run.

In fact, writing a free Will could actually cost your family a significantly high price.

Paying for legal advise isn’t expensive – it’s PRICELESS !
